Srinagar

Authorities on Friday decided to impose the restrictions in Srinagar parts including the old city as a precautionary measure.

An official said that complete restrictions will be imposed within the territorial jurisdictions of Khanyar, Rainawari, Nowhatta, Safakadal, MR Gunj and partially in Maisuma and Kralkhud police stations of the district on Friday.

The restrictions have been imposed as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident.

Pertinent to mention, the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprised of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, and Muhammad Yasin Malik has called for peaceful protests after Friday’s congregational prayers.

Geelani and Mirwaiz continue to remain under house arrest while Malik has been lodged at the Srinagar Central Jail.

Due to the widespread protests by students on Thursday, authorities ordered the closure of all schools, colleges, and universities in the Valley and all the exams scheduled for today have been canceled.
