SRINAGAR: Police in Awantipora have detained a militant associate under the Public Safety Act (PSA) and a habitual drug peddler under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act.
According to police, Suhail Farooq Lone alias Sahba, a resident of Lone Mohalla, Nigeenpora Reshipora in Tral, was booked under the PSA after a detention order was issued by the competent authority. He has been lodged in District Jail Bhadarwah.
Police alleged that Lone was involved in providing logistical support, shelter and transportation to militants operating in the area. They said preventive action was taken as he had allegedly continued to engage in activities considered prejudicial to the security of the Union Territory despite earlier measures.
In a separate action, Manzoor Ahmad Mir alias Mana Tiger, son of Abdul Khaliq Mir and a resident of Kadlabal, Pampore, was detained under the PIT NDPS Act and shifted to Central Jail Kot Bhalwal, Jammu.
Police said Mir is facing multiple cases under the NDPS Act and was allegedly involved in supplying narcotic substances to drug users in Pampore and other parts of Police District Awantipora.
Officials said both detentions were carried out after obtaining orders from the competent authority under the respective preventive detention laws.
