Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and veteran Congress politician Ghulam Nabi Azad Tuesday expressed concern over the spurt in militancy incidents and the ceasefire violations and said that Modi led government at the Union has “failed to control these incidents”.

Addressing series of meetings in Doda district, Azad, according to a Congress statement, said that the incidents of ceasefire violations along the International Border and LoC have increased manifold during recent months.

He said, “number of militancy related incidents have taken place in the past several months with reports of fresh recruitment of youth in the militant ranks which is a matter great concern.”

He said, “massive ceasefire violations along the J&K borders since the taking over of the BJP led NDA government resulting into loss of several precious lives including in Mendhar sector on August 15 occasion have terrorised the people all along the border and LoC and people are ready to migrate to safer areas for their safety.”

He said that the government has failed to take necessary measures and provide adequate relief to the victims of firing.

Azad regretted that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi preferred to remain silent on the killings of innocent civilians.

“On the one hand Pakistan is indulging in unprovoked firing targeting civilian population and it support to terrorism, while the BJP government is desperate for holding NSA level talks with Pakistan,” Azad said.

He said that BJP government is totally confused on its policy towards Pakistan as during the UPA regime the BJP leadership use to oppose talks with Pakistan on the plea that the talks and terror cannot go together.
