Former chief minister and National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah on Wednesday condoled with the families of deceased who were killed at Baltal during the landslide.

Taking to his widely followed twitter handle Omar wrote: “Tragic news of the deaths of Amarnath pilgrims due to a landslide. Condolences to the families of the deceased & best wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

Three Yatries were killed and five sustained injuries due to a landslide on the Baltal yatra route in Ganderbal district late last evening. An official said that three persons were killed and five injured in the landslide accident that triggered due to rains in the Yatra area.

Among the five injured one who is said to be critical has been shifted to Srinagar hospital for the further treatment.

SSP Ganderbal Fayaz Ahmad Lone said that three dead bodies of the pilgrims identified as Joyti wife of Bimal Sharma 35 a resident of Delhi Registration number 168070, Ashok Mohtoo son of Kharo Mathoo 54, a resident of Bihar Patna registration number 300838 and Shalinder Singh son of Vijay Singh 30, a resident of Delhi registration number 168700 were recovered from the debris.

Injured persons identified as Reyaz Ahmad Wagay, 20, son of Ghulam Mohammad Wagay a resident of Shangas Islamabad, Nand Lal, son of Subnamal 60, of Jaipur Rajasthan, Mansuk Lal, son of Savagi of Gujrat, Airf Hussan Khatana, son of Liyaqat Ali Khatana  of Kharpora Kokernag and Mohammad Sikander Kalas 23, son of Mohammad Ismail of Thune Kangan.

Following the incident, authorities have suspended the Yatra on both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes.
