Protesting against the Burhan killing, a mob of around 4000 people has hit a target that apparently lacked any connection with the ongoing crisis – a vast orchard with thousands of high-density plants. The orchard was tipped to be the game-changer in replacing the aged apple plants already 60 years old. It was an investment of more than Rs five crore that was the only model orchard to be replicated in Kashmir.

The high density orchard was considered to be the major shift in triggering a change in the horticulture sector that is already Rs 5000 crore strong. Change of the plants by imported high-density would improve the yield four times, at least.

The high-density orchard that already had two harvests was visited by Mufti Sayeed early last year. Since then, he would talk about it every time there was an occasion to talk about horticulture. Not only politicians, the orchard had evolved as a testing lab for students who would occasionally go on field visits to study the horticulture.

Reports reaching here said that a huge mob barged into the orchard. The managers of the orchard had pleaded the mob to avoid damage to the orchard saying it has nothing to with what has happened or is happening around. But the crowd threatened them to pave way or they will be also harmed.

Eventually they uprooted all the 4000 plants and set afire a tractor, two huts, a bathroom and two bikes. The managers of the orchard barely escaped with their lives.

Khurram Shafi Mir, the the the promoter of the game-changing company confirmed the unfortunate incident. “It is a bad thing that has happened to Kashmir,” he said, “But it was the will of God.”

The Bambdoora crowd has assembled from different villages and had earlier set afire the house where Burhan was killed along with his two associates. Some other orchards were also axed. Reports said the situation is still tense in the area.
