While construction of power house for 330 MW Kishan Ganga Hydro Electric Power Project is underway in Chak Matrigam of district Bandipora, the same village is reeling under darkness and sans water from past 20 years.

According to residents of the village, the transmission poles and transformer were installed in the village almost 20 years ago, but the people living in the village are still have no electricity.

“What else could be the sluggishness of the state administration as in the period of modernization, the village in the Kashmir Valley is still reeling under darkness,” Manzoor Ahmad while talking to KNS said.

“Despite assurance by the state administration, the government has failed to provide electricity in the village,” he said, adding that the transmission poles installed by the authorities are useless and have been damaged but the authorities have never cared to repair them.

“We have been continuously pleading before the state administration officials but unfortunately nothing has been done in this regard,” he said.

The residents said that since that time snowstorm hit the village, the poles and transformer got damaged. “The officials didn’t even bother to replace the transformer, electric poles or transmission lines thereby the village comprising of around 210 families are being forced to reel under darkness for the past over two decades,” they said.
