The people of Bandipora have alleged that the under  construction tunnels by Hindustan Construction Company( HCC)  and National Hydroelectric Power Corporation(NHPC) produce poisonous and polluted water that has damaged crops worth lakhs while as the environment and the local population of the area face a serious threat.

According to documents available with KNS, the minister of State for PHE, Irrigation, Flood Control, Agriculture, Floriculture and Horticulture, Nazir Ahmed Gurezi chaired a public Darbar on June 6 this year at Bandipore, where the people of the Bandipora District complained against HCC and NHPCC alleging that the Poisonous and polluted water is coming out of the tunnels which are under construction by the companies.

They said the tunnels under construction are not only polluting the environment but have also played havoc in the area due to which the water has been rendered unfit for human consumption as well as for irrigation purpose.

“Hindustan Construction Company and National Hydroelectric Power Corporation(NHPC) turned deaf ear to the problems of the people the problems by the construction of this  tunnel was  required to be solved by the said agencies but the HCC and NHPC has failed to do so”, they said.

After Mantrigam people reported that the poisonous and polluted water comes out of tunnels. The minster then took a very serious view against the HCC and NHPC authorities asked them to take immediate necessary steps to safe guard the interest of general public, reveal documents.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for PHE, Irrigation, and Flood Control told news agency KNS, that he has taken a strong note of the complaint against the NHPC and HCC.”We have asked them to take immediate corrective steps. No agency will be spared if they show indifference towards the problems of general public,” he said.
