SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday informed the Assembly that several sports infrastructure projects have been completed or are under development in the Bandipora constituency, with major upgradation works ongoing at the Sher-e-Kashmir Sports Stadium, Bandipora, and the sports stadium at Naidkhai under the Capital Action Plan 2025–26.
In a written reply to a question by MLA Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, the Youth Services and Sports Department said new playfields have been developed at Lankergund Gundpora, HS Qazipora and GHS Kaloosa. Badminton courts have also been constructed at BMS Kaloosa and Gamroo.
The department further stated that a Zonal Physical Education Office has been established in Bandipora, while an open-air gym and a pre-fabricated indoor hall have been created at the Sher-e-Kashmir Sports Stadium. Construction of the Centre Pavilion Block at the stadium is about 95 per cent complete.
The government said the pavilion project was delayed due to a pending revised technical sanction from the Chief Engineer, North Kashmir. However, it added that the newly constructed indoor stadium at the venue has already been completed and is ready for use.
The issue of removing the old and dilapidated pavilion structure has been taken up with the District Administration, Bandipora. Authorities said efforts are being made to resolve procedural hurdles to ensure timely completion of the remaining works and improved sports facilities for local youth.
