Police on Friday registered an FIR against the army for “threatening officers on duty and interfering with their investigation” into an accident involving an army vehicle that left two dead and five seriously injured.

A speeding army vehicle hit a passenger cab coming from opposite direction at Chamalwas, Banihal on Srinagar-Jammu highway, resulting in the death of two persons and injuries to five others.

“As police tried to arrest the driver and seize his vehicle, Commanding officer 12 RR Samrash Chatterji and Major Deepak reached the spot along with a number of soldiers and threatened the officers on duty,” said a police official.

“They took the accused driver and his vehicle with them and interfered with the investigation.”

He said police has lodged an FIR under section 353 RPC against CO 12 RR and the Major for interfering with the investigation.
