SRINAGAR: A militant was killed in a brief encounter in a Kulgam village. Police said the slain militant belonged to Lashkar-e-Tioba outfit.

Police and army had swooped on Tantray Pora village in Kulgam where the encounter took place.

“One militant killed in a gun battle at #Kulgam,” DIG South Kashmir tweeted.

The militant has been identified as Ishfaq Paddar, a local operative of the terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, wanted for civilian killings. Army said they recovered an AK 47 from, the deceased militant.

It was not immediately known if the encounter took place in a house or outside in the fields.

Padder’s killing came within hours after the Lashkar mounted an attack on a police patrol killing a headf constable Kishen Lal in city outskirts.
