Former Finance Minister Dr Haseeb Drabu on Sunday expressed shock over the following revelations by Governor Satya Pal Malik that nearly 600 political favourites were appointed in Jammu and Kashmir Bank.

Taking to social networking site Twitter, Dr Drabu wrote: “ @jandkgovernor has made a startling revelation: J&K Bank’s Relationship Executive recruitment list of 582 was changed by “political leaders”. Pls name the “political leaders” who got it done. When did it happen? How was it done? This is beyond shocking! Unbelievable!”

Drabu’s reaction after the state governor Satya Pal Malik made a sensational disclosure that the politicians in BJP-PDP government got the entire selection list of selected candidates changed to adjust their relatives and workers.

Reacting to Governor’s expose, former chief minister Omar Abdullah also tweeted, “More skeletons fall out of the cupboard- PDP-BJ_ changed entire selection list of J&K Bank to appoint favourites: Guv”.

The J&K Congress on its official tweeter handle said, “Another organisation PSC destroyed by appointing mediocre people with PDP+BJP loyalities”.

Earlier in a series of tweets, the Jammu and Kashmir bank chairman said that there is no scope of tinkering with any selection list.

“Absolute transparency & fairness in the recruitment process. There is no scope of any tinkering in the merit list prepared by the reputed national level professional recruitment agency IBPS. Open to public scrutiny on this,” JKBank chairman tweeted.

In another tweet, he wrote: “Comments of the Hon’ble Governor have been quoted out of context by a newspaper. 582 candidates have been appointed by clearing the waiting list from the previous recruitment process on account of vacancies arisen due to branch expansion in unbanked areas of J&K state.”

“Waiting list cleared as per the directions of the Hon’ble Governor as the candidates were on the verge of overage,” he wrote on Twitter.

In an interview with Times Now, the Governor said 40 youth approached him with the claim they had cleared all examinations and figured in the selection list of Jammu and Kashmir but were replaced by relatives and workers of political parties.

“I called the Jammu and Kashmir Bank Chairman. He told me that the number was not 40 but all 582 youths recruited by the Bank had been replaced with the political appointees, recommended by the leaders from every constituency. I asked the Bank Chairman to give the youth their due. I also called the Finance Secretary and finally a resolution was adopted and all 582 candidates have been given appointment letters,” he said.
