The two month ban on Kashmir Reader newspaper today coincided with the arrest of its trainee reporter.

Police on Friday arrested a local journalist Ishfaq Reshi who was associated with the banned Srinagar based newspaper “Kashmir Reader.”

Reports said that Ishfaq Reshi, a trainee reporter, had filed a story on “Crop Burning” incidents for the said newspaper.

The story appeared in the newspaper on 28th September under the headline: Forces set ablaze rice crop in Budgam, Anantnag areas, say local residents.

Aftab Ahmad, SHO Budgam Police station claimed that Ishfaq had misrepresented the facts in the story, which became the basis of an FIR against him.

Ishfaq was arrested and later set free however, Police said, an FIR under section 505 (RPC) has been filed against him in Police station Budgam.

Since October 2, Kashmir Reader newspaper is banned from publishing by an order of the state government.
