The raid was conducted after people associated with copperware industry informed the officials that J&K Prohibition and Manufacturing of Specified Copper Utensils by Machine Act 2006 is being violated and copper utensils are being made by machines at Meerakshah Colony Hazratbal.

“During the raid thousands of banned machine made copper utensils were seized. We also seized the machines and a case was registered against the owner of the factory,” an official from District Industries Srinagar Hamid Iliyas told CNS adding that the factory has also been sealed.

He said that copper works from Kashmir had been rendered jobless by intrusion of machine made copper items being sold openly in markets despite official ban. “Such raids will be conducted in future too and strict action will be taken against the violators,” he added.
