Election Commission of the Bar Association administered the oath of office to the newly elected members of the Bar Association at Sadder court Bar Complex Srinagar. The oath was administered by Syed Manzoor Advocate, Chairman of the Election commission of the Bar Association and almost all the lawyers participated in the oath ceremony.
As per a local news agency, KNS, immediately after the oath ceremony was over, an emergency meeting of the newly elected executive members was held in the Sadder Court Bar complex itself, under the Chairmanship of Advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom President, where some important matters concerning the Bar came under discussion and certain decisions relating to the grievances of the lawyers were immediately taken.
The Executive Committee paid homage to Abdul Rashid Gazi of People’s League whose dead body was recovered at Kreeri Pattan on September 12, 2013 under mysterious circumstances.
The members also condemned the killing of Mohammad Rafiq Sumo Driver at Shopian who was killed by CRPF on September 11, 2013 without any rhyme or reason when he was going back to his home for taking his daughter, who was ailing, for treatment to a Doctor.
The members expressed their solidarity with the members of the bereaved family and assured them of all possible help in bringing the culprits to book who are responsible of the killing of Mohammad Rafiq.
The members described the appointment of Deputy Commissioner Shopian as an inquiry officer for conducting the inquiry in the killing of four innocent persons of Shopian as an eye wash and demanded that FIR with regard to the killing of these four innocent youth be registered in the concerned police station and the CRPF personnel responsible for the killing be arrested and prosecuted and punished in the court of law.
The members also decided to extend the support of Bar Association to the strike call given by Hurriyat (G) against the killing of five innocent youth at Shopian for September 14, 15, 2013.
The members decided to observe the 09th Martyrdom anniversary of Peer Hussam-ud-din Advocate who was killed on 15.09.2004 at his residence at Bemina Srinagar; on 16.09.2013 at High Court Bar complex where rich tributes will be paid to Peer Hussam-ud-din Advocate and other members of the Bar Association who have laid their lives for the cause of freedom. It was decided that all the lawyers would be requested to attend the meeting on September 16, 2013 at High Court Bar Conference Hall at 3:00 p.m.
