The Executive Committee of the High Court Bar Association Srinagar held an emergency meeting on Thursday here to discuss the situation after the demise of Pakistani prisoner Sonaullah at PGI Chandigarh.
Being an under-trial he was killed by one inmate Vinod Kumar an Army man in ‘retaliation to the death of Sarbjeet Singh at Lahore. “It is an act of terrorism inside the Kotebalwal Jail Jammu within the domain of the jail authorities,” a spokesperson of the Bar said.
The Bar had already condemned the attack on Sonaullah inside the jail and now the Bar has asked the government to register a case under section 302 RPC read with section 120B against the assailant, Superintendent Jail and other officials of Kotebalwal Jail Jammu.
To condole and show solidarity with the bereaved family of Sanaullah the Bar will abstain from work on May 10, reads a statement.
The Bar has requested the other Bars of Kashmir and all lawyers to abstain from appearing before the courts of High Court as well as the courts subordinate to it.
