SRINAGAR: Member of Parliament from Baramulla, Engineer Rashid, arrived in Srinagar on Thursday after being granted interim bail to meet his critically ill father.

He reached the city in the afternoon and proceeded from the airport to SMHS Hospital amid security arrangements. People gathered at various points along the airport road and outside the hospital.
Sources said the meeting between the MP and his ailing father was emotional.
Officials said the visit was conducted in compliance with the conditions set by the Delhi High Court. Rashid did not address the media or interact publicly during the visit.
Awami Itihaad Party Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi said the administration ensured orderly movement during the visit and acknowledged the cooperation of authorities. He also appealed to supporters to maintain restraint, stating that the visit was humanitarian in nature.
Baramulla MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid, popularly known as Engineer Rashid, has been lodged in Tihar Jail in New Delhi since August 2019 after his arrest by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in connection with a 2017 terror funding case.
Recently, the Delhi High Court granted one-week interim bail to the incarcerated MP to visit his critically ill father, who is undergoing treatment at SMHS Hospital in Srinagar. Rashid, who heads the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), was granted relief following a plea seeking permission to meet his ailing father.
