Religious scholar from South Kashmir’s Shopian, Moulana Sarjan Barkati who earned several sobriquets’ including ‘Freedom Chacha’ and ‘Pied Piper of Kashmir’ is in Jammu’s Kot Balwal Jail.
The cleric was booked under PSA after his peculiar way of ‘anti-India sloganeering’ went viral across Kashmir in October last year at Wanpoh.
Incarcerated for over three months now, Barkati’s slogans reverberated on Monday in the central hall of Jammu & Kashmir State Legislative Assembly complex in Jammu.
The crowd puller Barkati on Monday had lawmakers’ following his style and verses on the first day of month long budget session.
As soon as the session started, joint opposition (NC, Congress, and other independent legislators) stood up from their seats and shouted slogans against the government.
Carrying placards in hands the lawmakers from the opposition shouted slogans like “Yeh pellet-bullet… na bhai na…yeh PAVA, SHAVA na bai na…PSA Sarkar Na bhai na”, reminding the “never-forgettable” slogans of Barkati, coined during various pro-freedom rallies.
