On the state government’s recommendation, the centre on Sunday cleared one-year extension in service of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan. Khan’s tenure was coming to an end today.

In an extraordinary move, the Department of Personnel and Trainings (DOPT) amended the All India Services (Death-Cum-Benefit) Rules, 1958 to allow Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to continue for one more year.

“I am directed to refer to D.O letter No. GAD(Seri) IAS/20/201 dated 12.06.2019 from the Chief Secretary Government of Jammu and Kashmir regarding extension in service of Baseer Ahmad Khan, IAS (JK 2000) for a period of one year beyond to the date of his superannuation 30/06/2019 as a special case in public interest by relaxing AIS (DCRB) rules-1958, without it being quoted as a precedent case in future,” reads an order issued by Sandeep Kumar Sinha Under Secretary to government of India.
