Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday said the militant killed in a gunfight with the counter insurgent forces in Bugam area of Chadoora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district was affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen outfit.

A police spokesman said the slain militant has been identified as Hilal Bhat from Armulla village of Pulwama. He said the slain was affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen outfit.

He said that the slain militant as per police records was affiliated with proscribed militant outfit HM and was wanted by law for his complicity in crimes including attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities.

“According to the Police records, Hilal Bhat had a history of crime records since 2017 and was involved in planning and executing several attacks in the area. Several crime cases were registered against him including Case FIR No. 12/2018 pertaining to the damage caused to a vehicle and residential house of a civilian at Niloora, Case FIR No. 33/2018 pertaining to a landmine blast at Gudbug Pulwama,” he said.

“Incriminating material including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other crimes,” he added.

“People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any,” said police spokesman in a statement.

The gunfight broke out after a joint team of Army’s 53RR and SOG Budgam launched a cordon and search operation in Bugam area late last night.
