Bear Attack Leaves Three Injured in South Kashmir Village

   

SRINAGAR: Three people, including a woman, were injured after a wild bear attacked them in the Reshipora area of Hermain in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday.

Officials said one of the injured was shifted to District Hospital Kulgam, while two others were taken to District Hospital Anantnag. The woman, who sustained minor injuries, is being treated at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Behibagh.

The injured have been identified as Fayaz Ahmad Malla, Abdul Hamid Chopan and Dilshada, all residents of Reshipora, Hermain.

Officials said the condition of all three injured persons is stable.

Following the incident, teams from the Wildlife Department, along with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, rushed to the area and launched an operation to tranquilise the bear and ensure public safety.

Police also issued public announcements advising residents to stay away from orchards until the area is declared safe.

However, officials said the operation was suspended due to darkness and will resume on Sunday morning. (GNS)
