Advocating implementation of beef ban law in letter and spirit in Jammu and Kashmir, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators Thursday said that they would oppose any bill that would be brought in the assembly for decriminalising ‘bovine slaughter’, even the bill submitted by opposition National Conference.

The BJP legislators while talking to KNS said that they would raise their voice against the NC’s bill submitted by its (NC) legislators in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

Seeking abolishment of the constitutional provisions criminalizing bovine slaughter in the State, three NC legislators – MLA Khanyar Ali Muhammad Sagar, MLA Sonawari Muhammad Akbar Lone and MLA Kangan Mian Altaf Ahmad – submitted a bill in LA on Wednesday.

However, BJP legislators maintained that they would oppose the bill in the next session and would press for the enforcement of the high court orders in the state.

“There is High Court order on bovine slaughter in the state and this law must be enforced in the state without any delay. We will oppose any such bill in the Assembly challenging the law,” Satpal Sharma, BJP MLA from Jammu West constituency said.

He said that BJP already has clarified that any court order must be imposed forthwith and violation of any law will not be tolerated. “Our party’s stand is that law must be enforced and we will oppose every move in full strength challenging the court orders,” he said.

Another BJP MLA Ajay Nanda said that he along with his other party MLAs would challenge NC’s bill in the Assembly. “The orders have come from the High Court not from any political party. So there must be complete ban on the bovine slaughter. We will raise our voice against this bill and won’t let anyone to violate the court orders,” Nanda said.

He said that BJP senior leaders including Deputy CM Dr Nirmal Singh have already welcomed the court orders and he would abide by them.
