Kashmir is observing shutdown Saturday against the upholding of the imperial era ban upheld by a division bench of High Court directing police to ensure ban on beef sale in state.

The impact of shutdown call given by separatists can be seen in major parts of valley where shops, business establishments, educational institutes and offices remain locked down.

While restrictions have been imposed in major parts of city, curfew-like situation is being reported from old city.

Notably, the ban has created a public outcry in Kashmir with people terming it a “direct interference in food and religious matters”. As ire peaked up, protests rocked many parts of valley. Besides, several incidents surfaced across Kashmir where people slaughtered cows to resist the attempts to ban beef.
