National Conference Thursday commemorated 33rd and 11th Death Anniversary of NC politicians: late Mirza Afzal Beg and late Khawaja Ghulam Mohuiddin Shah at a function organized at NC Head Office in Srinagar.

Addressing party workers on the occasion, NC General Secretary and MLA Khanyar, Ali Mohammad Sagar said that National Conference has an unparalleled legacy of statesmanship and both late Beg Sahab and late Shah Sahab epitomized selfless service and patriotism, a party statement said Friday afternoon.

“Late Beg Sahab and late Shah Sahab were tall NC stalwarts who always stood up for the honour and dignity of this State and its people. Late Beg Sahab’s iconic contribution in the Land-to-the-Tiller Reforms and his unflinching support to Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah would go down in history as a tale of courage and conviction. Similarly late Mohuiddin Shah Sahab’s role in the Autonomy Movement and struggle led by National Conference has been historic. His role in strengthening National Conference at the grassroots level has been commendable and exemplary and needs to be emulated in letter and spirit by all of us today,” Sagar said.

Speaking on the occasion, NC Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani paid tributes to late Beg Sahab and late G M Shah Sahab and called on the workers of the party to ensure that this glorious legacy continues and our youth are imbibed with the same values.

“They stood up for the honour and dignity of the people and the State and preferred jail terms over surrender. They both rendered enormous sacrifices for the people of this State and it is because of such towering leaders and because of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah that J&K continues to enjoy a special status and continues to keep alive its fight for Autonomy and empowerment,” he said.

Former MLA Batamaloo, Irfan Ahmed Shah while paying tributes to late Mirza Afzal Beg and late Khawaja Ghulam Mohuiddin Shah, highlighted their sacrifices and asked the party workers to draw inspiration from their unrelenting struggles for the cause of justice and empowerment of the people.

“Both late Beg Sahab and late Shah Sahab rendered unimaginable sacrifices for the cause of the people and they were one with the people. Following the footsteps of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, they always preferred the people over power and that is their timeless legacy for not only National Conference but the people of Jammu and Kashmir at large,” he said.
