Bhim with Khan

The Panthers Party Friday expressed shock on the demise of Sardar Mohammad Abdul Qayyum Khan, former Prime Minister and President of AJK, who passed away this morning at his official residence in Islamabad.

Panthers party chief Prof Bhim Singh in his condolence message to Sardar Attique Khan, former Prime Minister of PaK and son of Sardar Mohammad Abdul Qayyum Khan expressed sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family which has been actively engaged in the State Affairs for decades.

“The people of J&K have lost a great leader of the century whereas; I have lost a noble guide, friend and philosopher who always stood for peaceful co-existence of India and Pakistan. He was a great champion of dialogue between the leaders of India and Pakistan and never compromised on the status of Gilgit & Baltistan,” the statement said.

Bhim further said, “Khan has been arguing through his speeches and writings that Gilgit-Baltistan should not be dissected from J&K. As Chairman of Intra J&K ‘Heart to Heart’ Talks, Khan led delegation from Pak-side in 2005 and again in 2007. He was the only PaK leader who had interacted with BJP leadership including the then Opposition Leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee and LK Advani in New Delhi. In 2007, he had exclusive meeting and held dialogue with the then Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh. Sardar Qayyum Khan was the first leader from AJK who called on Dr Karan Singh, the son of the last Monarch of J&K in New Delhi and hosted an official lunch in his honour.”

“I feel terribly grieved, pains, hurt and sad on the death of such a noble man who had a great role to play in the resolution of the situation in J&K. I wish a place in the heavens for the departed soul and hope that we shall be able to fulfill the agenda, Sardar Mohammad Abdul Qayyum Khan had in his mind. Everlasting peace between India and Pakistan and final resolution of J&K through peace and dialogue.”
