Governor N N Vohra Thursday accorded assent to the “Jammu and Kashmir State Trust for Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple disabilities Bill, 2016”.

An official spokesperson said this evening that this Act, which would benefit a sizeable population of persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation, and Multiple Disabilities, aims to empowering persons with such disabilities; extending support to registered organizations to provide need based services to families of persons with disabilities; promoting measures for care and protection of such persons and realization of equal opportunities; protection of rights and full participation of persons with disabilities.

Besides empowering persons with such disabilities to live independently, this Act will enable the State Government to ensure timely interventions and mediations for mitigating their genuine problems. A nominee of the department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India, has been included in the Board of Trustees for supporting the State Trust in its formative years with regard to its management and operations.
