Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Thursday unanimously elected the party President Ms Mehbooba Mufti as “the leader of the Legislature Party and also nominated her as the chief ministerial candidate”.
“Besides all the 28 PDP MLAs, the meeting was also attended by Independent MLA from Zanskar, Syed Bakar Ali Rizvi who pledged his support to Ms Mehbooba Mufti,” PDP spokesperson, Naeem Akhtar said in a statement this evening.
He said the proceedings of the legislature party meeting were initiated by senior PDP leader and Member Parliament, Muzaffar Hussain Beig while another senior leader and Member Parliament, Tariq Hameed Karra also addressed the meeting.
Akhtar said senior party leader and legislator, Abdul Rehman Veeri proposed the name of Ms Mehbooba Mufti as the legislature party leader and chief ministerial nominee while another senior leader and legislator Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari seconded it.
Akhtar said Chairman Legislative Council, Haji Anayat Ali, the party’s Rajya Sabha members, Nazir Ahmad Laway and Fayaz Ahmad Mir and the members of the Legislative Council were also present at the meeting.
“Following the nomination of Ms Mehbooba Mufti as the PDP Legislature Party leader and the chief ministerial candidate, further constitutional requirement and the process for the government formation would be taken to the logical conclusion in consultation and coordination with the coalition partner BJP,” he said.
Akhtar said Ms Mehbooba Mufti thanked the party leaders and legislators and urged them to rededicate themselves to accomplish the mission and vision of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
She also reiterated her resolve to work towards implementation of the ‘Agenda of Alliance’ formulated with BJP. “Ms Mehbooba Mufti has been invited by the Governor, N N Vohra to meet him at Raj Bhawan in Jammu tomorrow,” Akhtar said.
