Ruling PDPs coliation partner BJP on Tuesday called for abandoning the bi-annual practice of ‘darbar move’, under which the Jammu and Kashmir government functions six months each in the two capitals — Srinagar and Jammu.

The government of Jammu and Kashmir started functioning from Srinagar, the summer capital, on Monday.

“The practice of ‘darbar move’ should be abandoned. There should be bifurcation of the state offices,” a news gathering agency quoted BJP spokesperson Virender Gupta.

Assembly Speaker Kavinder Gupta endorsed the statement of Gupta. He said that the practice costs the state exchequers heavily.

The spokesperson said that practice of ‘darbar move’ was adopted out of compulsion, as the circumstances that time were different.

He suggested that the secretariat, directorates and offices of corporations should remain operational in Jammu as well as in Srinagar.
