SRINAGAR: The BJP Jammu and Kashmir unit has denied any association with the individual seen in a viral video allegedly showing a woman being molested during a protest at Hari Singh High Street in Srinagar.
In a statement, BJP JK State Co-media Incharge Advocate Sajid Yousuf Shah said the party had cross-checked the matter with multiple sources and found that the person seen in the video was not associated with the BJP.
Shah said large public gatherings could be joined by unidentified and unaffiliated individuals, whose actions should not automatically be attributed to organisers or the BJP.
He said efforts were under way to establish the identity of the individual involved, as well as the portals that published the woman’s face.
The BJP leader condemned the alleged incident and said any identified persons should face action in accordance with law. He also urged people not to circulate unverified information or falsely attribute the alleged conduct of an individual to the party.
