SRINAGAR: Police in Sopore on Thursday attached two buildings, six shops and two kanals of land in Dooru after completing legal proceedings under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against properties allegedly linked to the proscribed Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu Kashmir (JeI).
The properties, comprising the premises of Islamia Model School, Dooru, were identified during the investigation of FIR No. 42/2025, registered at Police Station Sopore under Sections 10 and 13 of the UAPA.
Police said the school, which has remained closed since 2022, consists of two double-storeyed buildings, six shops and two kanals of land.
Following investigation and verification of official and revenue records, Sopore Police established the alleged linkage of the premises with JeI, officials said.
On the basis of a dossier submitted by the police, the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, through an order dated August 12, 2026, notified the properties under Section 8(1) of the UAPA, 1967.
Subsequently, following a request from Sopore Police, the District Magistrate, Baramulla, issued orders under Sections 8(3) and 8(4) of the Act. Police, accompanied by an Executive Magistrate, then carried out the attachment of the properties in accordance with the orders.
Police said the action followed a sustained investigation into properties and assets allegedly associated with proscribed organisations and their networks.
Sopore Police said it would continue to take lawful action against properties linked to proscribed organisations to prevent their use for unlawful activities.
