In a wake of weapon snatching in Kashmir, as several security personnel guarding political leaders who were either attacked or their weapons were looted by the gunmen, the Jammu and Kashmir police have seized the four service rifles of PSOs guarding a BJP leader at his official residence in Srinagar.

According to the BJP leader Altaf Thakur, a state spokesperson of BJP, the police party led by SDPO Nehru Park police station entered his official residence at Dalgate and seized four weapons of his PSOs who had gone to have dinner on January 3, 2018.

Thakur in a letter which he has shot to the Governor Satya Pal Malik for a security cover as he has been living without the security from last three days. Thakur in a letter wrote: “I want to bring it to your kind notice that on January 3, SDPO police station Nehru Park entered into my official residence at Dalgate on the pretext of checking the weapons of my personnel security officers (PSOs). However, she took the weapons along despite the fact I informed her that my PSOs were having dinner.

Sir, within half an hour my PSOs reported to the Nehru park police station after that they were called to the security line. And since January 3, I am without security cover. Sir, I also visited the police station Nehru Park and sought details as to why my security cover was removed, I didn’t get any proper reply.

My humble request to you that I being the state spokesman of BJP deserve the security given the threats I have faced in the past and present too.

Sir is the withdrawal of my security cover a conspiracy or a deliberate attempt to put our lives on the line. Sir, I request your good self to take the cognizance of the matter before situation takes ugly turn.”

It is pertinent to mention that last month; four policemen were dismissed from the service after they were found absent from their duties when four rifles were looted from the Congress leader Muzzafar Parray from his residence at Jawahar Nagar Srinagar.

Similarly, on 29, September 2018, an SPO guarding Aijaz Ahmed Mir, MLA Wachi, Shopian, fled with the arms from the residence of a politician from Jawahar Nagar Srinagar. Two days after the incident, a picture of SPO brandishing a rifle with four other militants was massively being circulated on social media.
