SRINAGAR: Senior BJP leader and MLA for Udhampur-East, R S Pathania, raised concerns on Tuesday about media coverage of an Article 370 resolution submitted by PDP MLA Waheed-ur Rehman Parra in the Assembly yesterday, questioning, “When the resolution hasn’t reached the Speaker, how has the media given it such wide coverage?”
Speaking during an obituary reference in the Assembly, Pathania, after paying tributes to lawmakers who have passed away over the past decade, turned his attention to the resolution submitted the previous day by PDP MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra from Pulwama, which called for the restoration of Article 370.
“Speaker Sir, I want to draw your attention to an important issue regarding yesterday’s developments in the House. When the resolution didn’t reach you, how has the media widely covered it? Isn’t this contempt of this House?” Pathania asked.
Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather intervened, asking Pathania to focus on the obituary references, as no other business was scheduled for the day. The first day of the Legislative Assembly session yesterday saw a ruckus following PDP MLA Parra’s unexpected introduction of the resolution seeking to restore Article 370.
Speaker Rather clarified that he had not received the resolution and would examine it. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah characterised Parra’s move as political and as an attempt to appeal to public sentiment. (KNO)
