SRINAGAR: BJP MLA RS Pathania on Monday submitted a no-confidence notice against Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather during the ongoing proceedings of the House.
Pathania conveyed the party’s decision to Rather and formally placed the notice before the Speaker. The motion seeks Rather’s removal from the post.
Responding to the notice, Rather said it would be taken up in the business of the House and processed in accordance with the prescribed rules and procedure.
The development comes against the backdrop of continuing disagreements between BJP legislators and the ruling benches over the conduct of Assembly proceedings.
BJP members also raised slogans during Monday’s sitting, demanding that Rather vacate the Speaker’s chair, while the House continued with its listed business.
The notice will be dealt with under the Assembly’s applicable rules, including its listing and subsequent consideration.
