BJP lawmaker from Nowshehra who was part of the frontal attack on independent MLA Engineer Rashid said his government did not register his complaint to the police over the beefy party. He said, “whatever happened in the house would have happened in the MLA hostel Wednesday evening but Engineer Rashid had fled.”
Talking to reporters outside the assembly, BJP attacking lawmaker, Ravinder Rania said, “he and others from his party were in the meeting at Deputy Chief Minister’s residence when they were informed about the on-going beef party. We rushed to the hostel but we did not find Engineer Rashid who, by then, had fled.”
“We summoned the SHO Kothibagh and gave him evidences and application and sought action which, unfortunately, has not taken place,” Raina said. “We were about to take up the issue before the Speaker but by then the incident had taken place.”
The lawmaker from Nowshehra who said he is a lawyer too failed to explain his unruly behaviour in the house and was visibly unrepentant. “The religious emotions of the minorities in the state were hurt by Engineer’s act and it would not be tolerated,” he said.
Raina and two others lawmakers, Dr Gagab Baghat from R S Pora and Rajiv Sharna from Akhnoor, it may be recalled here, attacked Engineer Rashid seconds ahead of the Speaker’s entry in the house.
Rashid had hosted a “beef party” in the state MLA hostel. Though a senior PDP minister revealed that the Engineer, who is desperate to stay in news, had procured mutton dishes from Ahdoos Hotel, the beef party poster went viral on social media.
Interestingly, engineer talking to reporters outside the house said he had some indications of the impending things.
In the on-going session, when Rashid on Monday greeted Education Minister, Naeem Akhtar for holy Hajj completion, Akhtar took it sarcastically prompting him to reply, “You (Rashid) are there for sacrifice.”
He said the attack on him was pre-planned and ruling PDP cannot escape the responsibility.
It is worth mentioning here that the spot of action was in the middle of the opposition benches in the house. Once BJP lawmakers caught and beat Rashid, some NC lawmakers intervened and reacted. At least two of the three BJP men were also beaten in retaliation.
