Strongly condemning the brutal assault on independent MLA, Er Abdul Rashid in the Legislative Assembly today, senior PDP leader and Member Parliament, Tariq Hameed Karra Thursday sought an FIR against the accused BJP legislators for “their reprehensible action in the House.”

In a statement issued here today, Karra said, “today’s highly deplorable action by the BJP legislators in the Assembly has not only brought shame to the House and the PDP-BJP alliance, but the outrageous action of the BJP legislators is almost akin to the lynching of Mohammad Ikhlaq of Dadri, UP.” “It is not an attack on Er Rashid, but an attack on whole Kashmiri nation,” he said.

Pertinently Er Rashid was attacked by BJP legislators in the House for organizing a beef party at his official residence here last evening.

“Today’s tragic incident in the State Assembly has made it amply clear that if the communal and radical Hindutva elements are not reigned in immediately, the time is not far away when we will see Dadri like appalling incidents being replicated even on the streets of the Muslim majority state like Jammu and Kashmir,” Karra said and added that if immediate legal action is not taken against the accused BJP legislators, they will be emboldened to interfere in other religious matters of the State’s majority Muslim population.

Karra added, “the scare, insecurity and panic created among the minorities of India by the detestable policies of the radical BJP-led NDA Government can be gauged from the fact that, having lost faith in India’s democratic institutions, some of the Muslim political leaders have been forced to approach the United Nations to ensure the safety of the community amid the culture of bigotry being perpetuated and promoted by BJP and Sangh Parivar.”

“Unfortunately, it will be too late, before BJP and the Sangh Parivar realize the immense damage being caused by their loathly policies to the secular fabric of the country,” he said and added that a fresh wave of alienation a simmering discontent is already visible in Kashmir.

Urging PDP Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and the party President, Mehbooba Mufti to seriously ponder over the pros and cons of the party’s alliance with BJP, Karra said, “at a time when the minorities in India are looking towards a united leadership to counter the radical Hindutva elements, PDP should not be seen cozying up to such sadistic elements for the sake of power.”
