Three days ahead of the elections, situation is getting gradually hot. A blast disturbed the election rally of NC president  Dr Farooq Abdull in Khanyar area of old city Srinagar on Sunday. however, there were no casualties.

After momentary disruptions Dr Abdullah made a speech to the crowd. He asserted his party is not scared of such acts.

Eye witnesses told Kashmir Life that a blast was heard about 100 meters away from the Gousia Waqf Secondary School Khanyar, the venue of the rally. It took place well before Dr Abdullah could make his speech.

“It was not a grenade blast. We have been told that it was just a tyre burst and we are investigating the matter” police spokesman said. Locals said that a large contingent of police and security men have cordoned off the are and mounted search operation.

Even Omar pitched in to manage the fall out. “There was NO blast at the venue of Dr Abdullah’s election rally in Srinagar. There was a sound that was heard in the distance,” Omar Abdullah wrote on micro blogging site Twitter. “The election rally continues without disturbance & the police are working to ascertain the source of the noise that was heard.”

Meanwhile another blast took place in Magam town of Budgam, ahead of another rally that Dr Abdullah is to  preside over. Five commoners were reported injured.

Confirming the explosion and the resultant injuries, police spokesmen said that the blast was outcome of a vehicle battery’s malfunctioning. More details are awaited.
