Paying rich tributes to the 1993 martyrs of Sopore on their 22nd anniversary, Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Tuesday termed their sacrifices as the priceless asset of freedom struggle.

In a statement, Mirwaiz said, “Sopore massacre during which 96 persons were killed in cold blood, dozens were injured and property worth millions was set ablaze by Indian forces was the living dark tale of a country which has always perpetuated militarization and suppression under the garb of democratic façade.”

Asserting that the blood of martyrs has led to recognition of Kashmir cause on International level, he said, “The struggle for right to self determination would be taken forward on political and diplomatic level till it reaches its logical conclusion.”

Meanwhile, Hurriyat (M) organized a special prayer session for the martyrs in Sopore, the statement said. “During the session, the participants paid tributes to the Sopore martyrs and entire martyrs of Kashmir. Senior leaders including Musadiq Adil, GN Zaki, and GH Mir participated in the session.”

The leaders while paying tributes to the martyrs said that no culprit was arrested, nor any relief package was announced for the affected people. The leaders once again resolved that the blood of martyrs would not be allowed to go waste and that Hurriyat (M) would continue to fight for the cause for which martyrs laid their precious lives, the statement informed.
