SRINAGAR: With the annual Amarnath Yatra 2026 underway, authorities on Thursday launched a boating facility at the Tawi River Front in Jammu, introducing a new recreational attraction for pilgrims, tourists and local residents.
The facility was inaugurated by Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) Chief Executive Officer and Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Commissioner Dr Devansh Yadav in the presence of senior officials and members of the public.
Officials said the initiative is part of efforts to develop the Tawi River Front into a major urban and tourism destination under the Smart Cities Mission.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Yadav said Jammu serves as the gateway to the Amarnath Cave Shrine and witnesses the arrival of lakhs of pilgrims every year. He said the boating facility would provide visitors with an additional recreational experience during their stay in the city.
He added that the project aims to create quality public spaces by combining tourism, recreation, sustainable development and improved urban infrastructure.
After the inauguration, the first group of pilgrims, tourists and locals experienced boating on the Tawi River. Visitors welcomed the initiative, calling it a new attraction for Jammu’s tourism sector.
According to officials, the boating facility will remain open daily from 10 am to 7 pm. Each session will last 15 minutes and will cost Rs 100 per person. Visitors can choose from paddle boats, rafts, motor boats and shikaras.
An online booking facility has also been launched through tawiboating.myjammu.in, enabling visitors to reserve their slots in advance.
Officials said adequate safety measures have been put in place, including mandatory life jackets, trained boat operators, rescue personnel and emergency response arrangements.
The Tawi River Front, developed under the Smart Cities Mission, features landscaped promenades, cycling and walking tracks, musical fountains, recreational areas, modern lighting and public amenities.
Authorities said the introduction of boating is expected to further strengthen the riverfront’s position as a key leisure and tourism destination in Jammu.
