Bodies of 15 Indians Killed in Vietnam Speedboat Tragedy Brought Home

   

SRINAGAR: The mortal remains of the 15 Indian tourists who lost their lives in the speedboat accident off Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island have been brought back to India, the Indian Embassy in Vietnam said on Monday.

According to the embassy, the bodies were flown from Ho Chi Minh City to Mumbai aboard a Vietnam Airlines flight. The governments of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Tamil Nadu will coordinate the transportation of the mortal remains to their respective hometowns for the last rites.

In a statement posted on social media, the Embassy of India in Vietnam expressed gratitude to the Vietnamese government and authorities for their support during the rescue, recovery and repatriation process.

“Their prayers, efforts and presence provided strength in this hour of profound grief,” the embassy said.

The tragedy occurred on Friday when a speedboat carrying 32 Indian tourists and four local crew members capsized off Phu Quoc Island.

The accident claimed the lives of 15 Indian tourists, while 16 survivors have returned to India. One injured tourist continues to receive treatment at a hospital in Vietnam, officials said.

The Indian authorities remain in coordination with the Vietnamese government regarding the aftermath of the incident.
