Body of Boy Recovered in Kulgam Drowning Case

Police have recovered the body of a 17 year-old boy who drowned in a lake in Kanju Kul Village of Kulgam District.

Giving details, Mohammad Ayoub, SHO Yaripora said, “police responded to a phone call from a local on Thursday around about 6:45 pm.

Two young men had gone to a ‘cooling-off’ to the lake, one of the two was on the bank while his counterpart jumped into the water. After quite some time, the boy on the lake bank noticed that the person who was swimming had got disappeared.”

“After he raised hue and cry, some locals gathered there to search the,” the SHO added.

The police further said that their team along with Fire and Ambulance crews looked for the boy until midnight that day. The search resumed early Friday morning with the help of the civil and locals.

Finally, the body of the victim was recovered today at 10 am. Identified as Shabir Ahmad Khatanna s/o Chirag ud din Khatanna r/o Khur Batpora Kulgam, he was a labourer.

The SHO said that the victim friend is “completely distraught” and “overwhelmed with both emotion and panic.”
