SRINAGAR: A 17-year-old boy drowned in Nallah Sukhnag in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday afternoon. The incident took place near Magam.
The drowning took place when the police were chasing a group of youth who were reportedly pelting stones at them.
The youth was identified as Shabir Ahmad Mir son of Ali Mohd Mir, a resident of Gund Hasibhat, Srinagar. His body was fished out from the rivulet by the locals and was taken to his home for burial.
A spokesperson of Budgam Police said they are enquiring into the circumstances which lead to the drowning of the individual. “The dead body was fished out from the stream by the locals and was taken to his native place for last rites,” the spokesperson added.
