Following the Resistance Leadership call to protest against the rising braid chopping incidents in the valley, the hostel boarders of the Kashmir University on Thursday held a massive protest demonstration in the varsity campus to protest the “braid chopping” spree.

A student of the varsity informed Kashmir Life that scores of students, boys and girls, staying in different hostels of the varsity staged a protest against the rising braid chopping incidents in the valley.

Shouting slogans, the students demanded that culprits should be immediately identified and brought to book.

“It is ironic that our sisters are no longer feeling secure inside their homes due to the braid chopping scare,” said a protesting student.

The students of MA Boys hostel, MAK Boys hostel, Habba Khatoon Girls hostel, Rabia Basri Girls hostel, Qurat-ul-Ain Girls hostel and Gani Kashmiri Scholars hostel marched through the campus and raised slogans.

Pertinently, the divisional administration Kashmir on Wednesday ordered closure of all educational institutions across Kashmir to prevent the protests on Thursday.

Kashmir University on late Wednesday afternoon also issued a statement reading that the class work in the varsity will remain suspended on Thursday. However, the examinations will be held as per schedule.

Kashmir valley has witnessed more than 100 braid chopping incidents across various districts over the last one month.

While the Jammu and Kashmir Police have formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the cases, however, it has yet not been able to come to a conclusion.

On Tuesday DGP Dr SP Vaid said that most of braid chopping victims were cases of “depression and attention seekers”.
