Rashid-marshalled-outWho says Er Rashid is the only “disruptionist” in the House? In ruckus-hit JK Assembly, Javed Rana seems new firebrand MLA. His “Hindu fundamentalist” remark for speaker Kavinder Gupta appeared no way a tongue-in-cheek comment. Hence BJP MLAs fumed and demanded public apology from Omar Abdullah. With apology yet to troll or trend on twitter, ruckus raged on the floor. And then it turned to be physical! As MLAs started manhandling each other, a group of ‘astonished’ school children play a silent audience in the stands. Along with temper, papers also flew up that ensured a busy day for marshals in the House. As dust settled over what education minister called “a very shameful spectacle”, people knew that jostling was all about power rebuff – and they say: it is first blow to “Agenda of Alliance”, is it?

SRINAGAR

asiya-andrabiThe day Pakistan was parading its military strength after a lull of seven years in capital Islamabad, miles away in Srinagar, the Dukhtaran-e-Millat Chief Aasiya Andrabi triggered a controversy by hoisting Pakistani flag. The cops were too quick to book her under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. Apart from unfurling flag, she also sang Pakistan’s national anthem on March 23 to “celebrate” Pakistan’s National Day. Once booked, she said, she didn’t commit any crime. In India’s capital, however, BJP termed Asiya’s step a case of sedition. But Asiya – in her signature move – just shrugged off another legal reprimand.

HAZRATBAL

VC-KU-Khurshid-Iqbal-AndrabiSo much about Aga in the town and that too, when he ceased to be. The latest making rounds is the ignorance expressed by the top executive of Kashmir University. The head, a top-notch biotech brain that varsity ever saw, was candid enough to admit: I ain’t heard about Shahid, the witness, the beloved. But in Kashmir, where Science was always opponent of Arts, such ignorance by science guy is acceptable to some. But for many, if the person happens to be Vice Chancellor, then it is indeed a tongue-wagging moment! Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi expressed his ignorance at the inaugural function of a three-day seminar on life and works of Aga Shahid Ali and evoked mild laughter from the audience. Such ignorance for the poet who the organisers said “poetized agonies of Kashmiris” should perish immediately, no?

Vishal-BhardwajThe maker of Haider is still stirring up a storm – that too, in a teacup! After sweeping five National Awards for his critically-acclaimed film, Vishal Bhardwaj dedicated them to Kashmiri pandits, who have already rued enough, saying the film has ignored their share of story. So, after ‘controversial’ remark, came a ‘classical’ response. A seasoned actor in KP camp, Anupam Kher felt the heat and bluntly said Bhardwaj wanted to show “generosity” after “insulting” KPs, eh? By sticking to his acting acumen, Kher minced no words to denounce Bhardwaj’s film pro-militant, one-sided and biased. Sorry, said Kher, KPs don’t need pity. Bookmarked, sir!
