President JKPCC Prof Saifuddin Soz MP has said that an empowered Panchayat Raj System would become an effective Institution of service to the grass root people in the state.

Addressing a meeting of Sarpanchs and Panchs at Akhnoor Thursday Prof Soz said that there is broader understanding between coalition partners for the empowerment of Panchayat Raj Institution on the pattern of 73rd Amendment of the Constitution of India by incorporating the best provision in the state Panchayat Raj Act. He said that the polls for the Block Development Councils were deferred for a short period, for the purpose of further empowering these institutions and to provide reservation to women, SCs & other sections.

He said that the issue of honorarium to Sarpanchs and Panchs has already been taken up with the central government.
PCC President said that the purpose for entire exercise is to empower the Panchayat Raj Institution so that they become effective instrument of democracy and come up to the expectations of people who enthusiastically cast their votes in large number in the Panchayat Elections which was appreciated all over.
