Pampore

With no official coming forward to explain the reason behind sudden snap of BSNL mobile, landline and broadband services in Pampore town, a number of theories are doing rounds. However, five days back when Kashmir Life managed to contact a senior BSNL official, he said, “We are upgrading our system. It will take a few hours.”

But, as days passes, and services didn’t resume, a number of theories started doing round in the town regarding sudden cut of services. “It is not up gradation of software but part of surveillance programme to help security establishment keep track of people,” said a local who wishes not to be named. “Otherwise how can they explain shutting services for five days?”

But not all believe this surveillance theory; some blame BSNL’s colonial attitude for such insensitivity.

“BSNL acts like East India Company. They cut off services in entire town without even informing their customers,” said Mushtaq, a local trader who is planning to switch service provider as his business suffers. “Since last five days I am not able to make a call. They (bsnl officials) are treating us like modern day slaves,” he rues.

All efforts to contact BSNL officials including GM (Srinagar) Saleem Beigh, failed. They didn’t respond to repeated calls and texts from this office.
