SRINAGAR: The Chief Minister on Tuesday visited the residence of the minor girl in Budgam district and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family following the tragic incident that has sent shockwaves across Kashmir.

Expressing profound grief, the Chief Minister said the incident had shaken the conscience of society and reiterated that such crimes have no place in a civilised world. He assured the family that the culprits would be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law and that justice would be ensured without delay.
The visit comes in the backdrop of the brutal killing of a 12-year-old girl in Galwanpora village of Budgam district, an incident that has triggered widespread outrage and grief across the region. The girl had gone missing on May 23, 2026, and her body was recovered the following morning, around 200 metres from her home.
Police subsequently constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case. Authorities have arrested a local suspect, identified as Mudasir Ahmad Mir, who is reported to have confessed to the crime during questioning, according to officials.
The investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement agencies continuing to gather evidence and examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
