Burglars are enjoying a field day out in Central Kashmir’s Charar Sharief area and are succeeding to whisk away with a variety, be it cash or even cattle.

A delegation from Chararsharief told CNS that during the intervening night, buglers struck at the wholesale shop of Arshad Hussain Wani of Chararsharief and decamped with goods worth lakhs of rupees. They said that elsewhere a number of animals were also stolen by the burglars.

In another incident, according to the delegation, burglars looted a the provisional store of Mushtaq Ahmed Sodagar and decamped with goods worth lakhs of rupees.

“We are feeling insecure while the police is taking no initiative to apprehended the burglars,” one of the shopkeepers told CNS.

According to the locals, a group of highly professional burglars is operating in the area and has let loose a reign of terror.

“These burglars have been able to loot several houses during the last three months and have stolen jewellery and other merchandise worth lakhs,” the locals said.

The locals accused the law enforcement agency of failing to crack these cases. “The police completely failed to make any arrest in these incidents which emboldened burglars to commit more thefts,” the locals said.

Police Station Chararsharief SHO, Manzoor Ahmed told CNS that they are looking into the matter. “We are surprised how burglars are able to break into the shops despite the presence of large contingent of police in and around Chararsharief Shrine. We have started investigation and hopefully the burglars will be trapped within shortest possible time,” he said.
