Burhan anniversary: Joint resistance leaders call for shutdown, protest rallies

Srinagar

The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) on Tuesday issued a protest calendar in connection with the first death anniversary of popular militant commander Burhan Wani.

Burhan was killed last year at the hands of forces triggering a massive uprising in the valley.

The leaders including Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar, Yasin Malik in a joint statement have called for complete shutdown on July 8 and July 13. As per the calendar a rally will be held at Tral to pay homage to Burhan and all “martyrs” on July 8.

Similar rallies will be held at all district headquarters and elsewhere in the world where Kashmiris are residing.

The leaders are silent about July 10 and July 12 however, calling people to visit the slain person’s residences on July 9 and participate in an online “Kashmir Awareness Campaign” on July 11.
