Resident Doctors Association (RDA) SMHS and associated hospitals have expressed serious concern against harassment of hospital staff and have lodged a strong protest against tear-gas shelling in the hospital emergency yesterday evening.

In a statement, the RDA SMHS has said four COPD (lung disease) patients were being managed in emergency room when tear gas shelling was done inside the emergency which caused severe suffocation of those poor patients. “This is in gross violation of international laws,” the doctors association said.

The hospitals, especially SMHS and Bone and Joint hospital are witnessing an unprecedented rush of injuries and emergency operation theatre, ophthalmology theatre, ENT theatre are working continuously since yesterday morning to their full capacity.

“The resident staffers have been working tirelessly without any break in the emergency section but still we are having shortage of staff,” the RDA said. “We received calls from many doctors that the even ambulances were not allowed by security forces at certain places which have added to the shortage of doctors.”

“We are highly thankful to local NGOS and local people around SMHS who arranged food and other essential stuff for hospital staff and attendants and we request them to continue same as many injured are without family members and some don’t have money with them.”
