While expressing heartfelt grief over the killings of 18 unarmed youth from different parts of the Kashmir Valley, Member of Parliament from central Kashmir and senior PDP leader, Tariq Hameed Karra, Sunday strongly condemned these killings by unabated firing by police and other forces personnel.

In a statement issued to KNS, Karra expressed his sympathies with the bereaved families and deep concern about critically injured youth.

He termed the Government’s claims about
zero tolerance, maximum restraint, standard operational procedures (SOP) as mere hollow rhetoric’s which are only pleasing to ears”.

“The present unabated killing spree has proved that nothing of the sort actually exists on ground. It seems that the systematic genocide by repressive and oppressive measures tailored by hawks both in the state and Union Government is being executed unabatedly,” Karra said.

Karra reminded the Chief Minister about the same situation on 28th June 2008, when six youth had fallen to bullets because of the Amaranth Land Row and PDP took a “bold” decision of walking out of the Government because of the fact that “PDP did not wanted to take the responsibility of innocent killings on its head”.

“Today the toll has reached 18, then why such high moral ground is not being demonstrated today. Maybe the only difference between the two situations is the Chair,” Karra said.

He further expressed that his discontent, strong reservations and apprehensions for the last sixteen months over “cobbling the coalition with RSS stands vindicated”.

“It is betrayal of the mandate given to PDP which has further alienated the people, hence a fresh spur of unrest, especially amongst youth, who considered PDP as their only savior on all political, socio, economic and administrative fronts. They had voted PDP only to keep divisive forces away from the corridors of Power whom PDP partnered later on. The very idea of bringing North Pole closer to South Pole is unnatural. According to Muslim faith that would only happen on the day of annihilation, that is the day of Judgment,” he said.

Karra further expressed his dismay over the “immature and insensitive handling of the present unfortunate situation by the People at the helm of affairs in the present Government”.

“Had it not been so, the State Information department would not have been drum beating and counting with names about the meetings of the political high ups with different delegations on the day of unfortunate happenings. This in itself demonstrates the insensitive approach about the handling of politically volatile situations occurring in the state. And this insensitive approach has not happened for the first time,” he said.

Lastly, Karra has demanded that it is moral responsibility of the Government on chair to protect the lives of all hues which can only be done by demonstrating “strong will to do that, failing which it should accept the failure and walk out”.
