Ms Mehbooba Mufti led cabinet is expected to have a quick meeting on Sunday noon, official sources said.
The cabinet will review the situation arising out of the Burhan Wani’s killing and the immediate backlash that Kashmir is witnessing for the last two days. The cabinet will consider various measures to manage the situation.
Sources suggested that the state police chief K Rajendra Kumar will make a detailed presentation on the law and order. Kumar, currently on leave with some marriage ceremony in his family, is flying to Srinagar early Sunday.
The cabinet meeting was earlier slated for Monday with a huge agenda including transfers. This agenda is unlikely to be taken up in wake of the new situation.
Meanwhile, there are reports that Delhi is flying reinforcements to Srinagar to help the government manage the situation. So far, 11 persons are reported to have been killed which includes one who was drowned.
Police source have identified eight slain civilians as Zubair Ahmad (Qaimoh), Amir Bashir Khan (Verinag), Saqib Manzoor Mir (Khundroo), Aijaz Ahmad Thakur (Siligam), Mohammad Asif Dar (Halpora), Showkat Ahmad (Hassanpora), Khurshid Ahmad (Kulgam), and Mohammad Ashraf (Larnoo). By late evening Haseeb Ahmad Ganai of Batpora Khanbal was also declared dead.
State’s Intelligence Chief S M Sahai earlier said 96 security men were injured and three cops were missing. Civilians who were injured are reported to be more than 100, so far.
